The Dandelion

My life changed when my little one was
born. When I saw darkness, she saw light. When I was sad,
she sang a song. Sometimes life brings a rainy season to the
life of a young mother. Sometimes, I do not feel worthy or
important. I was only a cook, cleaning lady and a caretaker to
my children.
I had not done anything great or
magnificent in my life. So, one day, my little girl took me by
the hand and said "Mommy, let's go for a walk," pulling me out
the door. Reluctantly, I got out of the chair and followed the
small child out the door. After a few minutes, I noticed the
little one searching through the field of weeds. She brought
me back a perfect yellow dandelion. She then informed me with
her big blue eyes full of wonder, that this is a yellow
flower. She kissed the flower and gave it to me and told
me how pretty it was.
I began to think of this simple act and I
compared myself to this dandelion. Some people might look at
themselves, and think "I am just a weed. I have no great
purpose in life, that I am just occupying space and I am
useless." But, dandelions have great gifts. The roots can be
used to heal sick people. They have other additional
uses as well. I realize that even though I might seem a
common, ordinary person to the rest of the world, to my 2-year
old, I am a gorgeous yellow flower full of beauty and
happiness. My favorite flower from now on is a
dandelion.
